Most IPTV problems on an LG webOS TV have one of four causes: a frozen app, a wrong clock, a bad playlist login or a slow network. Start with a full restart. Then work down the list below. Most fixes take only a few minutes.

How to Fix IPTV on LG webOS, Step by Step

The fixes below go from fastest to hardest. Try one fix. Check if the stream works. Then move to the next fix only if you need to.

App Stuck in Memory → Do a Full Power Cycle

LG TVs have a feature called Quick Start+. It keeps the TV in a light sleep so it turns on faster. The downside is that a stuck app can stay stuck after you press the power button.

  1. Turn off the TV with the remote.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the wall.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and open the IPTV app again.

If the problem keeps coming back, turn off Quick Start+. On many models, it's under Settings → All Settings → General. On newer models, look under General → Devices → TV Management. Menu names can change a little between webOS versions.

Wrong Date and Time → Set the Clock to Automatic

IPTV apps use secure connections, and secure connections check the date. If your TV clock is wrong, the server may block the connection. Then the playlist won't load.

  1. Open Settings → All Settings → General.
  2. Choose System (if you see it), then Time & Date.
  3. Turn on Set Automatically.
  4. Restart the IPTV app.

Bad Login or Ended Subscription → Re-Enter Your Details

A playlist is the channel list your provider gives you. It usually comes as an M3U link, which is a web address for the list. It can also come as Xtream Codes details: a server URL, a username and a password.

  • Check for extra spaces at the start or end of the URL.
  • Make sure capital letters in your username and password match exactly.
  • If your provider gave you a port number, make sure it's in the server URL.
  • Confirm that your subscription is still active.

Typing a long URL with a TV remote is easy to get wrong. Many players let you add a playlist from a phone or computer through a web page instead.

Buffer Too Small → Raise It to 5,000 ms

A buffer is a small amount of video the app downloads ahead of time. If the buffer is too small, even a short drop in speed freezes the picture.

  1. Open your IPTV player's settings.
  2. Look for Buffer, Cache or Network Caching.
  3. Set it to 5,000 ms (5 seconds).
  4. Save and restart the stream.

Not every player has this setting on webOS. If yours doesn't, skip to the next fix.

Internet Provider Slowing Video → Change DNS to 1.1.1.1

DNS works like a phone book for the internet. It turns website names into number addresses. Some internet providers use their DNS to slow down or block streams. Switching to Cloudflare DNS can help.

  1. Go to Settings → All Settings → General → Network. On older models, go to Settings → Network.
  2. Choose Wired Connection or Wi-Fi Connection.
  3. Open Edit or Advanced Settings.
  4. Turn off Set Automatically.
  5. Enter 1.1.1.1 as the DNS server.
  6. Save, then restart the TV.

Weak Wi-Fi → Use a Cable or Move the Router

Walls and floors weaken Wi-Fi signals. A 4K stream needs a steady connection, not just a fast one.

  • If you can, connect the TV to the router with an Ethernet cable.
  • If you can't, move the router closer or clear away anything blocking it.
  • If the TV is near the router, use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. It's usually faster at short range.
  • Pause big downloads on other devices while you watch.

Old Software → Update webOS and the App

  1. Go to Settings → All Settings → Support. On some models, go to General → About This TV.
  2. Select Software Update and install anything that's waiting.
  3. Open the LG Content Store, find your IPTV app and update it.
  4. Restart the TV.

Broken App Files → Delete and Reinstall the App

For most apps, webOS has no simple "clear cache" button. Reinstalling the app is the closest thing to a fresh start.

  1. Write down your playlist details first.
  2. Press Home, highlight the app, then press and hold OK. Choose to delete it. Some models use an edit (pencil) icon for this instead.
  3. Unplug the TV for 60 seconds.
  4. Reinstall the app from the LG Content Store and add your playlist again.

Video Format Not Supported → Try a Lower-Quality Stream

Many 4K streams use HEVC. HEVC, also called H.265, is a video format that fits a sharp picture into a smaller file. It's an international standard published jointly by ISO and the ITU.

Most recent LG TVs can play HEVC. Older or budget models may struggle with 4K at 60 fps. Fps means frames per second, or how many pictures the TV shows each second.

  • If a channel has both HD and 4K versions, pick HD.
  • Check your TV's spec sheet to see if it supports HEVC and 4K.
  • Try a different player app. Some apps decode video differently.

What to Do If Nothing Worked

If every fix failed, the problem may not be your TV. These checks help you find the real cause.

  • Try another device. Open the same playlist on a phone or tablet. If it fails there too, the problem is the playlist or the provider.
  • Try another network. Connect the TV to a phone hotspot. If streams work, your home internet or internet provider is the cause.
  • Reset network settings. Clear the TV's network settings, then set them up again.
  • Factory reset. Do this last. It erases all apps and settings, so save your logins first.

Before you do a factory reset, contact your IPTV provider. Tell them your TV model, webOS version, player app and the exact error message. This helps them find the problem faster.

When the Provider Is the Real Problem

Sometimes your TV is fine and the service is the problem. If a provider's servers are overloaded, streams will freeze, and no TV setting can fix that.
